Driving Licenses, is translation required.
There has been considerable confusion as to whether or not foreign residents living in Turkey are required to provide a translation of their Driving Licenses.
Some residents have been stopped by the Trafik Jandarma and told they need to have their driving license translated in to Turkish.
A letter was sent to the Chief of Police and his reply shows that if you are a temporary resident, as in someone who holds a residents permit or tourist visa you DO NOT need to have your license translated.
If however, you are here on a work permit or for educational purposes you should carry a consulate or notary authorised translation of your driving license.
An English translation of the letter from the Police Chief can be found HERE
A copy of the original letter in Turkish will be avalable very soon and it is suggested that you carry a copy with your license should you be questioned by the Trafik Jandarma
about this matter.
